The Morena mayor, Jesús Nava Rivera, has been the subject of criticism within his cabinet for his inaction during the environmental contingency that caused numerous fires in different parts of the state, including Santa Catarina. Despite reporting that ten fires were registered in his city and assuring that all were controlled, his lack of public presence generated discontent among the population and within his own party.
In the midst of the crisis, Nava Rivera only appeared to deliver a financial bonus to the firefighters' board, which intensified the criticism of his management. His absence contrasted with the active participation of other political leaders, such as Governor Samuel García and authorities from neighboring municipalities like San Nicolás and Guadalupe, who provided support for days in firefighting efforts in García.
The lack of support from the mayor to his party colleague in García, where the loss of five businesses and several homes occurred, has raised questions within Morena. Meanwhile, citizens also expressed their dissatisfaction with the lack of electricity supply in some areas and the emergence of new fire hotspots in the region, pointing out Nava Rivera's absence as a concerning issue.
Furthermore, it was highlighted that the complaints from the population regarding the contingency were deleted from government communication channels, such as the Whatsapp groups managed by the municipal administration, contributing to an increased feeling of abandonment by local authorities.
